As If! is over...wow... I think... I'm gonna cry.

Thanks to Mimi for sharing this wonderful strip with all of us. I plan to be an avid reader of the new Thorn and anything else she comes up with.

As If! was a wonderful comic that made my Tuesdays and Thursdays cheery and wonderful. They gave my best friend and I something to relate to, bond over, and get inside jokes from. I will deeply miss Angie, Hunter, Dork-boy, Tony, Frannie, the 'rents, Rosie, and other assorted characters I grew to love.

...am I the ONLY person who is about to hit herself for getting emotionally attatched to a COMIC STRIP...?

Only one to hit yourself? Yeesh, I hope so. ;-P

Only one emotionally attached? Not at all, not at all. :)

I find it wistful and sad that, like Madeline, "there isn't any more." Excellent comic. Brought out the joys and pains. It had that much of an impact.

<edit>I thought that seeing Strip #137 one more time ("Oh deeear... you guessed.") was the proper way to end with a bang. </edit>

I'd like to see (or maybe even write) a "Where Are They Now?" fanfic. Any takers?

I haven't been this depressed about a comics demise since Calvin and Hobbes.

I vote no fanfics. I think As If should only be told by its creators.

I suppose I should bid farewell, as well. As If! was my first webcomic ever, as well as many subsequent Firsts after that. It was a great project, and I hope all your future projects are just as awesome, if not moreso, Mimi.

the end...?

Postby Coyotex » January 1st, 2006, 10:14 pm

I met Amy Mebberson once at the MotorCity Comic Convention. I told her I had recently discovered the online comic As If! and was a big fan. I thanked her for reminding me what it was like growing up in the 80's, mall hair and all.

Again, wish to thank her for the best online comic I have read and will continue to read (in reruns) as long as I can.

Thank you!

And all I could think of as I read the last post was one song....

Same Old Lang Syne by Dan Fogelberg

Please be safe on your life journeys. and I hope I enjoy your new online webstrip as much as this one.

Yup, a little sadness...

I think we all saw a little of ourselves in Angie and Hunter, and a little of what we wish we had been, back then. That, of course, is the key to a good story; you draw in your listeners, make them a part of it.
Quietly making noise, making noise,
Pissing off the old killjoys.
Not too soft, not too loud,
Just enough to draw a crowd.

...I feel like I'm at a funeral...

I was pretty upset when Charles Shultz died and I found out there wasn't going to be any more Peanuts, but I think I'm sadder about As If!... It hit closer to home, somehow, especially as most of us have talked to Mimi via this messageboard or one-on-one through another messaging system.

I'm still pretty torn up about it being over, too.... :(

I doubt it'll happen soon, but I, for one, would really like to see Mimi draw a pic of Angie and Hunter as they'd look today, in their 30's....

<_<

Well, I disagree.

I love the strip, but it's not gone just, its in long-term reruns. We've got As-If online in the archives and we've got our published comics. Who knows, maybe after Ms. Mimi kicks butt in those Tokyo Pop projects, she'll get the interest, energy and backing to take As-If to a new level or provide us those flash forward glimpses that you've asked for.

For example:

Chairman: "Will the witness please elaborate on how the FEMA Flooding disaster plan for New Orleans was destroyed prior to Katrina's landfall?"

Sandy: "Well, as I told Brownie and #43, I had bent over to pick up a nail file and inadvertently hit the Delete key. It was an honest mistake, and besides I hadn't been to my Spa in weeks. How was I to know that this was the only copy of that report?"
A centimeter can make a huge difference. One cm difference here and I would've been paralyzed, another there and I could've died. But I'm here and I'm determined to recover and to enjoy the life that I've been given a second chance at.

Oh dear God Sandy working for the Federal Government. I don't know what the appropriate response to that would be.

Would it be...

A. Sandy got a Government job! Dear God in Heaven were all screwed!

or

B. Sandy got a Government Job. Huh. Well she can't make it that much more incompetent. Can she?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Sandy actually ... you know, intelligent? She'd probably do a better job than 'Brownie'.

Hey, I was just going for an improbable joke, not actually trying to pull an "Animal House", you know.

Though bright, Sandy seems to direct that intelligence into non-practical things. But then again, she's a teenager. Who knows where that energy will go as she matures.

I didn't find out about this until today. Though I am sad that there will be no more As If!, I am glad that it ended on a good note instead of leaving me hanging. There have been quite a few comics that stopped that have left me feeling unsatisfied.

I think the final strip was a good way to end it.

Oh, I will also be looking foward to Mimi's future projects. :)

Intelligence is not the only thing that makes one good at a job. Many a government employee has a degree from a well respected institution. Thus proving they had enough intelligence to graduate from an instute of higher learning. I just see Sandy as one of those that would let her ego get in the way of proper decision making. Also, I'm not certain of her common sense either.
