Jet Wolf's Top 100
Most Memorable Sailor Moon Moments
Numbers 51 to 60

60. Tomoe-sensei's Past [JP]
Episode #120 [SMS 31]

Villains with depth certainly aren't new to Sailor Moon. With many other shows (including lots of anime that I've seen), you are presented with a two-dimensional Bad Guy, some obscenely powerful obstacle that the Heroes have to defeat for the Good Of All. But the Bad Guys only ever seem to have one purpose in winning their battles: Power or Money or Random Destruction. Here, however, we are given undeniable proof that Professor Tomoe is not your average Bad Guy. Power, Money and Destruction mean nothing to him. Possession aside, he's in it only to save his little girl. Now these are the kind of villains that you can really sink your teeth into.

59. "Don't give up, Mako-chan!" [JP]
Episode #97 [SMR 8]

Another hysterical sequence that I fear words will not do justice to. Suffice it to say that it's
worth the price of admission just for this wrist communicator scene.

58. Endymion's memory returned [JP]
Episode #46

As with just about everything from both this epsiode and the one that preceeded it, I felt as though this was a very well done sequence. Yes, this Usagi and Mamoru "mush" actually managed to strike a chord with me.

57. The Prophecy [JP]
Episode #90-119 [SMS 1-30]

Before all of you who have seen SMS start groaning, no, this is not here just because it's something that centered around Rei. It's here because I adored seeing how this sequence grew and developed as the series did. I loved how Rei would get flashes of it without warning, and we would see that he Outers were having the same visions. It was a sense of consistancy that I find is frequently lacking in the show when it comes to details. Too often for my tastes are we presented with something that you feel is horribly important and should shape the events of future episodes, and yet it was just a gimmick for that singular appearace and is forgotten after that. The repeating of the vision was a refreshing change (even if it was stock footage).

56. Rei comforting Usagi [JP]
Episode #86 [SMR 40]

It's very difficult for me to say if this scene sticks out so much in my mind due to my own feelings on the Rei/Usagi relationship, or due to the fact that I had recently started conversing with a certain fanfic author about his take on the same relationship, which made me view this a little differently. (Damn you, Chris! ^_- ) But either way, I present this scene to all those who foolishly insist that Rei-chan is "just a bitch". So there.

55. Death of Rubeus [JP]
Episode #74 [SMR 28]

There can be no denying it, Rubeus was a slimeball. He deserved no pity, only the fate that he got. It's interesting, then, that I did feel sorry for him at his end, when he misinterprets what Esmeraude's appearance bodes for him. And you have to admit it, that was one heck of a final cry of his.

54. Tongue Wars [JP]
Episode #43

Really, all of Usagi and Rei's "arguments" in this manner are great, but somehow the seiyuus
managed to sound extra obnoxious in this episode.

53. Mako's life before Usagi [JP]
The R Movie

I'm not sure of the exact reason behind my empathy with Mako here. It could be because this glimpse into Mako's past strikes a familiar note or just because the ignorance of those around her infuriates me ... Possibly even both.

52. Dark Endymion [JP]
Episode #46

He's tough, he's cool, he throws black roses ... Definately Mamoru's best incarnation.

51. Mars and Jupiter's confrontation [JP]
Episode #43

One displays her love proudly, like a badge of honor. The other keeps her feelings hidden, sometimes so deeply that even she forgets that they're there. It's no wonder that someone as open and honest as Mako has trouble seeing past the defensive layers that Rei has built around herself. This episode, however, finally lets us get a definate peek through those barriers to the true feelings underneath. Hey, how could I not like seeing stuff like this? And we even get the added bonus of Jupiter shoving Mars against a tree. Fun for all!
