Jet Wolf's Top 100
Most Memorable Sailor Moon Moments
Numbers 21 to 30
30. Introduction of Rei [NA]
Episode #7: An Uncharmed Life
When I was "told" to watch Sailor Moon, this episode was my first.
I wasn't impressed. There were plot holes big enough to drive a bus through (pun only slightly intended), Serena's wailing was making my skin crawl, I thought the theme song was completely obnoxious ... And then I saw her. Classy outfit, cool paper-thingie with the writing on it, strong-willed and tempermental, pet birds, nifty attack ... Hey, maybe this series isn't so bad after all.
29. The Rose [JP]
The R Movie
And so we learn that their history together extends back even further
in this lifetime. A very neat way to tie everything together ... And Chibi-Usagi is nothing short of precious.
28. "Crisis Make Up!!" [JP]
Episode #125 [SMS 36]
Another that words can't do justice to. Yet one more shining example
of how good these seiyuus are. Do yourself a favour and get a copy of this episode. You won't be sorry.
27. Soldier for Love and Justice? [JP]
Episode #102 [SMS 13]
Usagi is cornered, helpless and alone, facing Kaolinite who has just
discovered that Usagi is Sailor Moon. To perhaps make matters worse, Uranus and Neptune are also there, and they can hardly believe that this crybaby is who Kaolinite claims. But then, suddenly, from the shadows comes a voice giving Sailor Moon's trademark speech ..... Yes, as probably most of us know, this is the episode where Minako impersonates Sailor Moon so that Usagi's identity remains a secret. The hilarity of this scene was heightened for me because I actually forgot that Minako did this, only remembering just before she revealed herself. I think my reaction was something similar to Usagi's just with a whole lot more laughing going on. This is another scene that a synopsis just can't possibly do justice to.
26. Rei's Heart Crystal [JP]
Episode #90 [SMS 1]
She's my favourite, how could this not be included in a list
of my most memorable moments? Besides another excellent look at Rei, this episode sticks with me so well possibly because she's screaming in agony for almost half an episode (I guess the Death Busters refined their process later, it took about two seconds to get Mako's), and there's some good quality Usagi angst to boot.
25. "Love... I too..." [JP]
Episode #45
When she wants to be (or, perhaps more accurately, when she doesn't want to be), Ami-chan is the funniest character.
24. "It is NOT a puppy!" [JP]
Episode #127 [SMS 38]
I watched the SMS series in an extrememely messed up order. My actual
last "new" SMS episode was #121, the Tellu episode (and Gods was
that a disappointment). I actually watched this episode months before I had watched the rest of S, and I can't say that anything much about it stood out to me. It all seemed too anticlimactic when compared to the arc before it (as it was supposed to -- these two episodes just wrapped up all the loose ends, after all). But last night, when I finally took it into my head to get this Top 100 updated finally, I rewatched this episode. I can't believe that I'd forgotten this scene! An excellent Rei/Usagi scene that slipped my mind! I'm sure to be punished for it later. But at any rate, when I rewatched it, I loved this scene. For those of you not in the know, the girls are holding a party for Chibi-Usa, who is about to return to the future. Usagi has made her a stuffed rabbit. Rei comes over and says "Oh, what a cute puppy!" Usagi, of course, gets mad and yells that it's a BUNNY, not a PUPPY. Rei apologizes, in her own way, making Usagi even more mad. Rei raises her hand, it looks as though she's going to slap Usagi ... and instead she gives her a band-aid for Usagi's finger that she hurt while sewing. "Oh, here, let me put it on for you..." Rei
says, grabbing her hand, and then later whacks Usagi playfully on the head as Chibi-Usa looks on forlornly and wishes that she had a friendship like they did.....
And my, but this is long, so I'll stop now. Summation: I
liked it a lot.
23. "He shouldn't be riding that thing!" [NA]
Episode #8: Nightmare in Dreamland
I expect that I'm getting several bewildered looks now. This is found
in my list because I think that it's the scene that turned me into a Sailor Moon fan (not Moonatic. It would take a while to get to that level).
This will always be a favourite.
The only reason that this one isn't higher on my list is because
I'd read the synopsis so many times before seeing it that it wasn't anywhere near as funny as it could have been ... but there's no denying it, this is still a riot. Once again, Minako at her insane best, running through town, with her heart crystal in hand yelling "I've got a pure heart! I've got a pure heart!" while the rest of the cast rush to catch up with her. And her attempts to get noticed by the Death Busters were classic. Toss in the final revelation of identities between the Inners and the Outers, and you get one heck of a good episode.
21. The formation of the ginzuishou [NA]
Episode #30: A Crystal Clear Destiny
Well, now I have seen the three episode arc, and yes, it does
heighten the impact of this event, making sure that it hangs in the top
25. Emotions were certainly running high in these episodes .... I can't
wait to get to finally see them in their original form.
