Road trips are keen. I think anybody who's been around HoF long enough knows my feelings on them. They usually take a wee bit more planning than this one though. On almost a spur of the moment and in the wake of our dog Harley's lost battle with cancer, I decided to visit my mother. A grand return to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I could fly it, of course, but where's the fun? Never mind my paranoid fear of flying, Pictures! What's more interesting to look at: 200 pictures of clouds, or 200 pictures of road?

Wait, maybe you shouldn't answer that.

Here then is the documented pictorial of my road trip. Seven glorious days in 2006 from 1 February to 4 February, and 12 February to 14 February. Being "pictorial" means "pictures". Lots. May choke dial-up. Warned.

Some other things to know first. Unlike my previous road trips, this one was solo. That means that all pictures were taken by yours truly. Of course, also I had other obligations to meet at the time. Obligations like not driving off a cliff. On this front, success! The side effect though is that not all the pictures came out as hoped. The really bad ones aren't here – the many pictures of my hand or backseat, for example. Some others, although blurry, have been left in if I thought there was something salvageable.

The other thing to be aware of up front is that I love mountains. Lovity love them. And I saw lots of mountains. Guess what? You will too! Also on this trip I discovered that I had a thing for trains as well. If I saw a train, I felt compelled to try and snap a picture of it.

Be informed. Be prepared. Mountains. Trains. Sometimes together. But there's also the usual bevy of comments and observations. And oh, some things so desperately require comment. Such as the Jesusmobile. Yes, the Jesusmobile. Mobile Jesus. On a truck.

All that, and more! Onward!
